A la mode: Homewood Museum

October 14, 2009  |  Always envious of the grand historic interiors featured in our Great Estates column, we wanted to take a cue from the period décor and find ways to recreate the look in even the smallest apartment. A recent peek inside Homewood Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, which boasts boldly painted floorcloths, elegant Federal period furniture, and stunning juxtapositions of color, seemed the perfect place to start.

Below is a selection of readily available paints, fabrics, and furnishings that offer a taste of Homewood's elegant interiors. We hope you feel inspired!

Clockwise from top left: James River Collection sideboard (Hickory Chair); Jet Stream paint (all selections from Benjamin Moore); Rose Cumming St. Cloud wallpaper (Dessin Fournir); Peach Cooler paint; Classic Cloth Sonoma Check fabric (Dessin Fournir); Parkside Dunes paint; Commedia dell'Arte painted Corine figurine (Nymphenburg); Neoclassical mirror (Richard Rothstein); Floor cloth (Susuan Beekman Clough); Plain Stripe ST 1142 wallpaper (Farrow & Ball); Sullivan Green paint; and Shield back side chair (Baker).
