It is with heavy hearts and profound admiration that we at The Magazine ANTIQUES bid farewell to our editor, Gregory Cerio, who died Saturday. Greg spent his career as a journalist, with stops at People, House and Garden, and our sister magazine, MODERN, where he served as founding editor before succeeding Elizabeth Pochoda as editor of ANTIQUES. In 2019, he and publisher Don Sparacin acquired ANTIQUES and established it as an independent company. Under Greg’s leadership, the magazine launched its first podcast, Curious Objects, and celebrated its one-hundredth anniversary in 2022, while paying tribute always to the debt the present owes the past, and refusing to capitulate to a narrow definition of “antique.” Greg’s overarching goal was “to tell good stories.” Whether publishing—or writing— about eighteenth-century furniture, mid-century stylings, or the strange and fascinating output of folk artists and artisans, he did so unfailingly. He will be deeply missed.
