The Magazine ANTIQUES, celebrating more than 100 years as the leading American journal of historical art and design scholarship, seeks an Editorial and Digital Media Assistant to fill a temporary opening during our current January-February cycle (ending December 17), with the possibility of extension to a permanent position.
The position entails responsibilities on both our digital and print media platforms, and the ideal candidate will have technical skills as well as a familiarity with journalistic best practices.
The Editorial and Digital Media Assistant works primarily under the direction of the Digital Manager/Research Associate and the Senior Editor.
Specific duties include:
Editorial
- Routing articles through editorial process
- Circulating articles between proofreaders
- Handling various editorial tasks as they arise, such as captions and fact-checking
Web and social media administration
- Fact-checking social media posts
- Scheduling and formatting web articles in WordPress
- Scheduling and formatting social media posts in Later
- Writing social media copy
- Creating videos for social media using Canva
- Designing social media graphics
Candidates must have excellent written communication skills, and be able to proofread articles on deadline for comprehension and grammar. Short-form writing opportunities will be available to those wishing to build a portfolio of bylined articles.
The position entails approximately 20-40 hours per week with more work being required during print issue deadline weeks. Working schedule to be determined. This is an hourly position at a rate of $18.50/hour.
This is a remote position, but note that the workday schedule follows Eastern Standard Time.
